Laura said that it was about 9:30 when they finally fell asleep. "Braden didn’t make a peep the whole time, but Ellaina kept getting up. They woke up around 5:30 this morning, so I’m sure naps are in order. Long ones." :)
After a LONG day of travel, we have arrived in Playa del Carmen!! The travel day wasn't quite all bad, we did have time to catch up with Amanda and Dave. Now we are just settling down in our rooms, getting ready to head out for a late bite, some drinks, some laughs, and to see the town! It has been too long since we have been able to relax and have a drink with just Burrows and Dave. This is going to be a GREAT week!!
Friday morning, Brad woke up to begin his morning routine, when suddenly he was laying right next to me again looking horribly pale. He had gotten some sort of bug, which knocked him out...literally. He ended up having to stay home from work, since he couldn't move (or pack) without getting sick. NOT FUN for anyone.
He was still feeling pretty sick by bed time, so I just stayed up to get everything packed and ready to go. My head hit the pillow around 2:00am. No more than 10 minutes later, Ellaina came strolling into our bedroom. She has only slept with us maybe a hand full of times, and it is usually when we are not at home. I invited her to lay with us and we cuddled up real tight. After all, this is the last time I will get to cuddle and love on her for a week. I was all about it :)
Then around 3:00am, I realized why she had woken in the first place. She wasn't feeling good?!? She told me she was going to throw up...as she was throwing up. I woke Brad so he could grab the trash can he was using earlier. She did such a good job throwing up in the trash can. Afterwards we laid her across the chair as we changed the bed sheets and she got sick a couple more times. It was so sad, but she handled it like such a big girl. She would warn me with enough time to get the pale for her.
Needless to say it was a long night and I felt so disheartened calling Kim with the news, since we were dropping the kids off at her house that morning. How do you tell someone..."Oh, by the way, my daughter is throwing up sick...we'll be dropping them off around 9:00am."? It is especially hard to call Kim about it, since she has such a weak stomach when it comes to throwing up. Luckily, like always, Kim was very understanding and comforting. When we got there, she had the kid's game area all set up for Ellaina to lay and watch movies. It is such a blessing to have Brad's family so close, especially since they are SO AMAZING!
It ended up to be a long day/night, but there are so many worse things that could have happened. I just have to thank God this was it. Now, hopefully she doesn't share the bug with anyone else. Luckily, Braden must have gotten it already. He woke up Monday night after throwing up in his bed. At that time, I thought it was because of all the dairy milk he had been drinking during the day. My friends Breann and Tracy were in town, so we were out in about all day. With Braden's milk addiction, it was all he kept asking for. Obviously there isn't Rice milk at places, so I went ahead and gave him regular milk. I thought his throwing up was a result of that decision...now I know differently.
...isn't always that great :) I have spent the entire week planning, packing and squeezing in work once my new lens arrived. It has been crazy stressful. I definitely liked it better when I would just throw a few things in a suitcase and be on my way. Now, I have to pack for three and a half as well as get all my business ducks in a row.
Tomorrow is going to be a little bitter sweet. Sweet for the fact I can finally relax on the beach with a fruity little cocktail. Bitter because I will be leaving the kids for a week...wow a week. I don't know how I am going to do it. It is going to be amazing, and I have DREAMED of photographing a destination wedding! I cannot wait to see what kind of incredible compositions I can get with the stunning scenery and amazingly adorable couple! A little part of my heart will be lingering in Dallas though :)
I have been so stressed trying to get everything ready for our trip, that I have broken out in a rash on my elbows and a little on my chest. Being that we will be in another country tomorrow, I just wanted to double check with a doctor to make sure it was just Eczema...which of course it was.
When we left the doctor's office, Ellaina said she needed to go potty. We headed into the bathroom and she asked me to go first. As I was sitting down on the toilet, Ellaina said, "Don't touch the toilet Mommy, you can hold onto my legs for help!". It was so matter of fact and funny. It is something I always say to her in public bathrooms. Apparently she is listening...always :) After I was all done, she proceeded to tell me "That is a lot of pee pee mommy". Oh the joys of taking talking toddlers to the bathroom.
Before I head to bed, I always check on the kids. It is my favorite way to end the day, an today was no exception! They both look so precious and peaceful all cuddled up in their beds. How in the world am I going to be able to be away from these little munchkins for seven days? The longest we have been away is two nights, and that was hard enough. I know it is going to be an amazing time in Mexico, so I just need to focus on that :)
Some of us decided to get out and enjoy the nice weather, so we headed to Finch Park for a play date. Apparently the city turns the water on to the Splash pad in April. Once the kids figured this out, it was a matter of time before it became a wet, cold play date. See April is warm here, and in Minnesota the temperature may be warm enough for Minnesotans to run around in a splash pad, but in Texas. It is and was still too cold. Ellaina’s purple lips were the visible evidence of that, but they were having too much fun to care. It really was such a great time, made even better with all our dear friends that joined in :)
We have the Chipmunks movie on are DVR, which is Ellaina's most requested movie :) A week ago, Brad picked up the "Chipmunks: the Squeakuel" and instantly it became her favorite. She will make random comments about the movie during the day. Many times it is something along the lines of "Dave is hurt" or comments about the girl chipmunks.
Well lately, she has been walking around singing a new song. A couple days ago I figured out it was "All My Single Ladies". I say I figured it out, because she didn't have the words right, but she had the melody down pack. We rented the movie again today for movie night, and her cute little voice was all about that song again. Finally, I realized what words she was saying while singing the melody..."All my Stinkies, All my Stinkies. All my Stinkies, All my Stinkies...now put your hands up!" It was so adorable!! Now she keeps saying "sing with me". LOVE IT!! She is so adorable!!
One of my best friends Breann came to visit us. She is such an incredible person and I miss her terribly. Her trip wasn’t as long as I would have liked it to be, but if it was up to me, I would never want her to leave. I think the kids had the same sentiment. They warmed right up to her :) Our friend Tracy drove up from Houston to spend the day with us too. It was another great time with my Minnesota friends. Miss them all so much.
Ellaina can be quite the nurturer. Brad was watching the kids on the monitor Thursday night. He said Ellaina had climbed out of her bed into Braden's. Then she covered him up with his blanket, gave him a kiss and said "Here you go buddy!". It was so sweet to hear about, I cannot imagine how enjoyable it must have been to see it.
Tonight we were experimenting by moving Braden's bed into Ellaina's room for them to sleep together. With company coming this weekend, we wanted to see if this could be another sleeping option. Besides, Ellaina has been dying to have someone sleep over in her room.
It started off with a bang. Ellaina was having a fit when we shut the door. Her usual stall tactics, but magnified by the fact she had an audience. We were able to see them on the video monitor, and ignored the fact they were both scooting between the two beds. But once Ellaina started banging on the door, I had to set it straight before it got out of control. Apparently, Braden hasn't been at the end of my stern face and voice. He jumped into bed so quickly and sat very quietly. Ellaina on the other hand, got her foot ran over by the door when I opened it, so it set her off into a screaming mess. I calmed her down as much as I could and left with both kids in their own bed.
This is when the laughter started on our end. Ellaina was still doing her (nails on the chalk board) cry, when Braden stood up on his bed and told her...and I quote "STOP IT". Then he laid right back down in his bed and didn't say another thing. Ellaina quieted down after that, and grabbed his extra blanket off her bed. She covered him up and gave him one of her bear blankets. Now, they are both laying in their bed quiet...except for the occasional lean over look Ellaina gives to Braden. If it stays like this, Brad and I will both be in disbelief. Incredibly better then we expected...so far. Here's to me not jinxing it.
We woke up to a fun little Easter egg hunt in the house. It was almost not happening, since Brad and I forgot to get eggs and treats. Luckily it was our date night on Saturday, so we made a quick midnight stop at Walmart for some supplies (Walmart after dark is always so…interesting?).
This year we figured the kids were old enough to enjoy dyeing eggs, so we decided to give it a try Easter morning after church. We all had a great time and it was remarkably not too messy. There were stickers in the kit for the eggs, but as usual they ended up decorating our faces :)
After naps, we joined the family at the Daugherty residence to celebrate. It was such a nice time and everyone was able to make it. It was nice enough to be able to be outside, so the kids had a blast while we got to visit. The Easter egg hunt toke place in the front and all the kids were able to enjoy the hunt. There was no short supply of eggs and laughs. It was such a nice day!
We all headed to the Fort Worth Stock Yards for some old country fun...and that is what we got! We arrived early so we could see the first cattle drive. The kids were delighted to watch the mechanical bull being setup. Logan was so excited to ride the bull the day before, but once we got their the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze seemed to peek his interest more.
The maze was a great time. We all went through, even Braden and Ellaina. The boys ran off together, while the rest of us tried to find the letter stamps together. In the end, we all ended up needing the same letter so we banded together to find it. My brother is just so sweet, fun and patient. Ellaina was in heaven following him and Emma around, as was Braden...a couple steps behind. Afterwards, we watched the cattle drive, had a picnic by the van and headed home. I forgot to take all the kids to get the old fashion picture. It was something I really wanted to do, but at least we got some great pictures of our wonderful old west trip :)
